Cody Thompson made his debut at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Ark.) on Wednesday night with the opening night of the fifth annual Race For Hope 71. With a talent-laden field of 100 IMCA Modifieds in the pit area, Cody unfortunately found his opening night come to an early end with a mechanical failure in his heat race.
Thompson returned on Thursday night looking for better luck. The night started with his advancing from fourth to third in his heat race, which relegated him to a B-Main, where he started fifth and picked up a win to accumulate points toward Saturday’s line-ups.
On Friday evening the third round of preliminary action was held, and a fourth-to-second run in his heat race moved Cody into the main event, where he started 24th. He enjoyed a solid outing in the feature as he passed 11 competitors to finish 13th.
Via his performance on his prelim nights, Cody started 30th in the B-Main. He mounted a stellar run to a fifth-place finish. While it left him a couple of spots short of a transfer to the finale, his incredible performance still opened a lot of eyes.
