Cody Thompson stormed into the opening round of the Cornhusker Classic on Friday evening at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska). With 50 NASCAR SportMods on hand, the competitors competed in double heat races. In his first heat race, Cody raced from the eighth-starting spot to a third-place finish. Meanwhile, the second heat race found Thompson picking up the win from from the third-starting spot.
On Saturday night Cody started second on the grid as he set his sights on the big win in the 25-lap finale in his Maaske Motorsports / Precision Hydraulic & Oil entry. He went on to claim his second-career Cornhusker Classic title with Lance Borgman, Cade Richards, Devyn Peterson and Robbie Thome completing the Top-5 finishers.
