Cody Thompson hit the ground running in his brand-new Harris Auto Racing No. 25c IMCA Northern SportMod during the opening round of the 38th annual IMCA Speedway Motor Super Nationals at Boone Speedway (Boone, Iowa). The Iowa racer overcame a field of 162 competitors to win the qualifier, which locked him into pole position for Saturday’s coveted finale.
Thompson started his day by winning his heat race from the third-starting spot to lock into the fourth-starting spot for his prelim feature. Cody raced his way to the lead and ultimately the win in the 25 lapper.
After seeing Saturday’s finale postponed a day by Mother Nature, Thompson went into battle in the championship on Sunday afternoon. He battled at the front of the pack throughout the coveted feature before crossing the finish line in the second position.
“We didn’t get the win, but honestly it felt like a win after having to scramble last minute to get this car ready. I had less than 100 lap on the car going into the weekend, so to come out with a second-place finish against so many talented driver was a total victory for our team,” Thompson said. “Thanks so much to everyone, who supported us, and made this possible. We’re very excited about the future.”
