Cody Thompson kicked off the Midwest Madness Tour on Sunday night at South Dakota’s Raceway Park. After finishing third in his heat race, Thompson started third in the feature, and had high hopes for a win. Unfortunately, mechanical issues knocked him out of the feature. He was credited with a 20th-place finish.
Cody Thompson rolled into Clay County Fair Speedway on Tuesday night with the Midwest Madness Tour event. A stacked field of 40 IMCA Modifieds crowded into the pit area, and Cody charged from sixth-to-second in his heat race, which earned him the sixth-starting spot for the $1,000-to-win, 30-lap feature.
Thompson clawed his way to the lead by lap 17. He paced the next dozen laps before slipping up on the final lap, which allowed Kyle Brown to slip past in a photo-finish. Thompson finished second with Jeremy Mills, Dakota Sproul, and Kelly Shryock completing the Top-5 finishers.
Midwest Madness action took the team to Iowa’s Buena Vista Raceway on Wednesday night. Thirty-two racers registered for action, and a fourth-place finish in his heat race transferred Cody to the main event. The feature found Thompson racing around mid-pack throughout the event before finishing 13th.
The Midwest Madness tour came to a conclusion on Thursday night at Stuart Speedway (Stuart, Iowa), where 38 drivers took a final shot at glory. Cody advanced from the ninth-starting spot to a fifth-place finish in his heat race, which left him one spot short of transferring to the feature. However, a second-place finish in his b-main locked him into the 20th-starting spot for the feature. He would go on to advance to a 12th-place finish.
Weekly Racing Series action took the team to Murray County Speedway (Slayton, Minn.) on Friday night. Cody won his heat race from the sixth-starting position. In the feature he started third on the grid and advanced to a runner-up finish behind race winner Cole Bents with Joshua Rogotzke, Don Gerritsen Jr., and Josh Bonnstetter rounding out the Top-5 finishers.
