Cody Thompson was back to the grind this week, taking part in a trio of event at two different ovals. On Monday night, a talented field of 38 entries rolled into Iowa’s Stuart Speedway for the opening round of the Dirt Duel. Cody raced from the eighth-starting spot in his heat race to finish third, which positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the night’s main event.
He climbed four spots to finish second in the feature in his his No. 25c IMCA Northern SportMod. A Manufacturer’s Dash was also held on Monday night, and Thompson raced to the victory in it to claim bragging rights for Razor Chassis.
After taking a night off on Tuesday night, Cody returned to Stuart Speedway on Thursday night for the $3,000-to-win, Dirt Duel finale. Starting third on the feature grid, he jumped to the lead early and the field until the final lap. Shortly after taking the initial white flag, the caution flew, setting up a green-white-checkered finish. Thompson battled Johnathon Logue during the overtime laps, but came up just a matter of inches short of his 13th win of the year in a photo finish.
On Thursday night the team traveled to U.S. 30 Speedway (Columbus, Nebraska). After recording a second-place finish in his heat race, the remainder of Thompson’s night fell victim to rain.
