Cody Thompson kicked off his 2021 campaign over the course of the last week with four events in four days at two different Arizona tracks. Action opened on Thursday – Saturday with three rounds of IMCA Winter Nationals competition at Cocopah Speedway (Somerton, Arizona). The tripleheader proved to be full of bad luck for the Iowa driver, as his best finish was a 25th in the Saturday night finale.
From there the team traveled north on Sunday to FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway (San Tan Valley, Arizona), where Thompson entered the sixth-and-final round of the 15th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout. With a stout field of 60 Modifieds on hand, Cody fell two spots short of qualifying for the finale with a sixth-place finish in his B-Main as his night came to an early end.
The team will look for better luck on January 22-24, when they enter a trifecta of IMCA Modified action during the inaugural Schaeffer’s Oil Wild Wing Shootout at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway.
