Cody Thompson swept both IMCA Northern SportMod events over the weekend at South Dakota’s Park Jefferson International Speedway.
The seventh annual J&J Fitting Iron Cup came to life on Friday night, and mechanical issues in his heat race left him with a DNF. Despite his bad luck in his heat race, he enjoyed redemption in the feature by advancing from the ninth-starting spot the victory. Rusty Montagne, Jonah Chinn, Luke Jackson and Zach Nitsch followed Thompson across the finish line.
On Saturday night the second round of the event was held at the oval, Cody’s night started on a much better note with a heat race win. Starting third on the feature grid he charged to his second victory of the weekend. Rusty Montagne, Michael Guthrie, Zach Nitsch and Luke Jackson completed the Top-5 finishers.
On Sunday night he rounded out the weekend with a SportMod victory at The New Raceway Park (Jefferson, South Dakota). His triumph came from the 12th-starting spot with Jonah Chinn, Luke Jackson, Conner Vande Weerd and John Rebstock completing the Top-5 finishers.
The weekend wins pushed his 2020-win tally to 26.
