Cody Thompson Competes in Cocopah Winter Nationals
Cody kicked off the 2022 season on Wednesday night with the opening round of the IMCA TV Winter Nationals presented by Yuma Insurance. Seventy-one entries were on hand at Cocopah Speedway (Peoria, Ariz.), and Cody won his heat race from the third-starting position to lock into the third-starting spot for the feature.
He raced in the Top-5 throughout the feature before crossing the finish line in fifth behind Kollin Hibdon, Don Shaw, Tanner Black, and Tim Ward.
Thursday night saw the action continue with 74 entries in action, and Cody raced from sixth-to-second in his heat race to lock into the 12th-starting spot for the feature. Passing eight cars in the 25-lap finale, Thompson crossed the finish line in fourth behind Ethan Dotson, Jerry Flippo, and Austen Becerra.
On Friday evening Cody advanced to the feature via b-main action. Starting 20th on the grid, Thompson passed nine cars to finish 11th.
Action continued on Saturday with Thompson passing four cars in his heat race to finish fifth, which positioned him fourth on the grid for a B-Main. Winning the B-Main, Cody started 19th in the feature and advanced to a 10th-place finish.
After a handful of days off the team returned to action on Wednesday with the ever-fun Pit Crew Challenge, which saw Cody Thompson Racing come away with a ninth-place finish.
On Thursday night Cody was back behind the wheel. He qualified for the feature with a ninth-to-four run in his heat race, but after starting 16th in the 25 lapper, he was an early retiree to a 27th-place finish.
Friday night was more of the same for the team. Cody passed three cars in his heat race and finished fourth, which relegated him to a B-Main. He won the b-main, and started 19th in the feature, but was again an early retiree with a 27th-place finish.
After battling bad luck throughout the miniseries the team decided to skip Saturday’s finale as their IMCA Winternationals came to an end.
