Cody Thompson earns trio of top-10 finishes at Hancock County and Park Jefferson
Friday and Saturday saw Cody Thompson take on a pair of tracks in his No. 25c IMCA Modified. In three feature events, he finished no worse than sixth.
On Friday evening, Thompson visited the 4/10-mile Hancock County Speedway (Britt, Iowa) for the completion of the Night of 1,000 Stars after rain had forced its postponement two weeks prior. Thompson rolled off second for the 35-lap, $5,000-to-win feature event and stayed up front for the duration of the race. He finished third, following Brandon Beckendorf and Jeremy Mills under the checkered flag. Jerry Flippo finished in the fourth spot behind Thompson, while Kelly Shryock took fifth.
Also on Friday, Thompson was one of 16 Modified competitors participating in the track’s Season Championship show. He won his heat race from the pole and began the 20-lap, $1,000-to-win A-Main from the seventh spot. He advanced one position to come home with a sixth-place result.
On Saturday, Thompson took part in another Season Championship event, this one at his home track of Park Jefferson Speedway (Jefferson, South Dakota). Thirteen Modifieds were in the pit area at the 3/8-mile oval. Thompson finished fourth in his heat, putting him 10th on the grid for the 20-lap main event. He charged forward six spots to score a fourth-place finish behind Chris Abelson, Jay Noteboom and Chase Alves. Jim Thies finished fifth.
