Thompson scores Iron Cup victory at Park Jefferson
Cody Thompson raced at his home track of Park Jefferson Speedway (Jefferson, South Dakota) over the weekend and left with a win in the prestigious Iron Cup.
On Friday, Thompson was one of 17 IMCA Modified drivers set to compete for the event's $1,500 first-place payout at the 3/8-mile facility. He drove his Dakota Coating Solutions No. 25c Modified to heat race finishes of third and second, putting him fourth in passing points heading into Saturday’s finale.
The following evening, Thompson drove from fourth to second in the dash race and began the 25-lap main event from the second position.
He took over the top spot in the A-Main on Lap 19 and led the rest of the way to take the victory by 4.681 seconds over Brandon Verbook. Third place went to Bob Fleshman, with TJ Brockman finishing fourth and Sean Barragan coming home fifth.
The victory was Thompson's seventh overall this season.
