Thompson takes runner-up finish in Park Jefferson opener
Cody Thompson began his 2024 season on Saturday with the Kickoff Classic at his home track of Park Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, South Dakota.
Thompson was one of 20 IMCA Modified drivers on the property for the opening-night event at the 4/10-mile track. He began the program with a second-place finish in his heat race and started fourth in the 20-lap, $1,000-to-win feature.
Thompson drove into second on the opening lap of the main event and finished in the runner-up position, taking the checkered flag 1.441 seconds behind winner Jeremy Mills. Troy Cordes, Shane DeMey and Cole Bents rounded out the top five.
